An inspiring day at the RAF Museum exploring the exciting world of STEM careers!

On Wednesday 10th June, our Year 10 Product Design girls attended the inspiring Women in Science – Get Inspired event at the RAF Museum.

The day began with fascinating talks from keynote speakers Helen Seymour, the world’s first Typhoon pilot, and Rosie, a former RAF fighter pilot and navigator. They shared their experiences of working in the RAF and discussed what it was like to build successful careers as women in traditionally male-dominated professions. Their insights into aviation, science and engineering were truly inspirational and encouraged students to consider the many opportunities available within STEM.

Students then explored a range of careers stands, speaking with organisations about opportunities within STEM industries and learning about the many pathways into science and engineering careers.

The students also took part in the debate workshop, “Can I Save the Environment?”, where they collaborated with students from another school to organise and lead their own debate. We were incredibly proud of how confidently and passionately our students presented their ideas, demonstrating excellent teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills.

The day concluded with an engaging Q&A session, giving students the opportunity to ask questions and hear further advice from the speakers and organisations.

Our students had a fantastic day and represented the school brilliantly throughout. We hope the experience has inspired the next generation of scientists, engineers and designers!
