‘The function of sociology is to reveal that which is hidden’ - Pierre Bourdieu

Sociology is the study of societies, people and their behaviour. Sociologists are interested in the way in which institutions such as the family, education and religion shape who we are and how we behave. ‘How much of who you are is shaped by the society in which you live?’ is one of the key questions in the course.

The Sociology A Level examines contemporary society, where students will study many aspects of life in modern Britain. Those opting for Sociology will study over two years and will sit three papers at the end of the course. The subject also give students the opportunity to develop skills valued by higher education and employers, including
critical analysis, independent thinking and research.
