Design and Technology

Back

Design and Technology is a subject aimed at drawing on a broad base of knowledge and skills which will lead to a "Technological Capability’ and the development of creative skills, allowing students to be adaptable in a rapidly changing society and employment market.

Through the investigation of carefully planned technology projects, students will identify specific needs, generate design proposals and then plan, make and evaluate their chosen product.

All students study Design and Technology National Curriculum throughout Key Stage 3, completing projects in Textiles, Graphics, Product Design, and Cooking and Nutrition. At Key Stage 4 GCSE courses are optional; the courses available are ‘Food Preparation and Nutrition’ and ‘Product Design. Students can choose to specialise in one of these areas. Students who wish to continue Design & Technology at Post 16 have the opportunity of doing this through A/AS Level "Product Design" or “Fashion and Textiles”.

The Department has, over the years, developed an excellent reputation for links with industry, local community and for winning national competitions at both Key Stage 3 and 4.
