Sixth Form Life
Management
The Heads of Years 12 and 13, supported by the Assistant Heads of Year and the team of form tutors, have responsibility for the academic progress and welfare of students during their time in the Sixth Form.
Specialist staff are also available to provide a confidential counselling and support service.
Reviewing and Recording Students’ Progress
The progress of all Sixth Form students is carefully reviewed throughout the year. Students share in this evaluation with their subject and form tutors, and parents are kept informed in writing of the outcome of this process. Throughout the year opportunities are provided for students and parents to meet with staff.
Action planning forms a very important part of post-16 education. This is negotiated with tutors and targets are set and monitored throughout the academic year. The aim of this process is to increase student motivation and improve personal achievement.
Sixth Form Council
Each tutor group elects a student representative to sit on the Sixth Form Council, which plays a key role in the development of Sixth Form policy and activities.
There are several traditional functions which are organised by the Council. Amongst these are the Sixth Form Prom and charity activities, which raise money for both local and national charities.
Learning Resources
All essential learning resources, including textbooks, are provided. All sixth formers pay a book deposit which is fully refundable once all textbooks have been returned at the end of the course. Currently it is £5.00 for students entitled to free school meals and £50.00 for all others.
Financial assistance is available to help ensure that students can take part in field trips. In addition, scholarships are available for modern languages students to study abroad.
Attendance and Dress
Sixth Form courses are full time and the basic regulations for attendance are no different from those governing the rest of the school.
Students are expected to dress appropriately. Clothes should be suitable for the working school environment with no extremes of fashion.
