"Participation in extra-curricular sport is high with over 700 students taking part in inter-school events" Ofsted

The PE Department strives to promote interest and a positive attitude towards physical activity by giving the opportunity to work with others, allowing students to develop socially, experience leadership whenever possible and encouraging acceptable moral behaviour.

During Key Stage 3 and 4, some 50% of the time is spent on games teaching, football, netball, hockey, rugby, basketball, volleyball, cricket and rounders. Other activities include trampolining, gymnastics, athletics, badminton, swimming, OAA, indoor games and fitness.

Extra-curricular clubs are available for most of these activities plus table tennis. These take place during lunch times and after school. Some matches and tournaments take place at the weekend.

The school has two football pitches, one rugby pitch and three playgrounds with four netball courts and a 5 a-side football pitch. In the summer term, the school field has a six-lane 300m track, a throwing field with discus, javelin, shot, long jump, three rounders pitches and an all-weather cricket pitch. There are also tennis courts on the playgrounds. Inside there is a Gymnasium and a Sports Hall, each containing one badminton court, markings, and posts for basketball, volleyball and netball.

These facilities are available for hire in the evenings and the weekends. A number of local clubs, including the Mill Hill County High School Old Boys and Girls, use the facilities at these times. Many local children make use of these clubs.

All the PE staff at the school are qualified PE specialists who also hold a variety of coaching qualifications in football, swimming, netball, gymnastics, trampolining, first aid, table-tennis, badminton, tennis, hockey, cricket, athletics and basketball.

It is the policy of the Department to enter all Barnet competitions. In terms of internal competitions, the Department seeks to involve as many students as possible through the House System, whether it is through playing, umpiring or organising. There is also an ex-Students Association (Old Boys & Old Girls), where past and present students can play netball and football.
