Media
Media is a sixth form department and offers A Level Film Studies, A Level Media Studies and AGCE Media: Communication and Production. All students make a practical production and these may include suspense thrillers, documentaries, advertisements and television news reports.
A Level Film Studies (WJEC)
The AS/A2 specification in film studies is designed to deepen students' understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film. The specification works out of the cineliteracy learners have developed informally since childhood. They study Cinema as a medium, as an art form and as a social and economic institution. They are asked to engage with a wide range of films, developing skills in observation, critical analysis and personal reflection.
A Level Media Studies (OCR)
Through a variety of approaches, including the act of production, this specification enables students to develop their enjoyment of media texts, in addition to developing a framework for critical analysis of their meanings and contexts. The course offers students the opportunity to look at the role the media plays in their own lives through the acquisition of a sound foundation in the main conceptual approaches and debates of media studies.
