Mathematics

"Overall, the very good teaching enables all students to achieve very well." Ofsted

Mathematics is a core subject in the curriculum for all students in Years 7 to 11. The Department ensures that students are both challenged and enjoy their lessons.

Key Stage 3 - In Years 7 to 9 students follow a balanced course, based on the national curriculum.  Emphasis is placed on tasks that provide opportunities to consolidate previous knowledge, to become confident about new knowledge and to deepen knowledge.  In addition,  students can acquire  the ability to use the tools of mathematics that are essential at  a later date.

Key Stage 4 (Linear) - In Years 10 and 11 students are prepared for GCSE Mathematics. This is done through two papers - Calculator and Non-Calculator both taken at the end of year 11.

Throughout the five years, students are taught in a flexible setting system which enables them to be placed according to their attainment in Mathematics. Those students with specific difficulties in Mathematics are taught in smaller groups and receive specialist help.

A wide range of courses are available in the Sixth Form at AS and A2 Level:
  *   Mathematics (Core and Mechanics)
  *   Mathematics (Core and Statistics)
  *   Further Mathematics.

An AS level in Statistics is also available for those students who do not need full A-level in Mathematics but would benefit from some knowledge in Statistics.
