Description of the Specification
This intermediate level course provides a broad education as a foundation for both further study and for employment. It is designed to help students develop a view of their potential and their career prospects.
The National Awards are widely accepted in both further and higher educational institutions. The National Award is the equivalent of up to 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above. Students are able to progress from the course to Advanced level (3) study. Employers see the National Awards as highly relevant to the world of work.
The course consists of nine units of work and credit is given for each one achieved.
There is one compulsory unit:
- ICT Skills for business
The optional units are:
- Webpage creation
- Spreadsheets
- Multimedia Products
- Desktop Publishing
- Technological Innovation and E-commerce
- Work Experience
- CAD & CAM for design and production
- Creating Sound (Half Unit)
- Creating Video (Half Unit)
Type and Nature of the Work Involved
The course is delivered through a series of coursework assignments, which involve written work, practical activities, presentations and a period of work experience. The assignments, which are continually assessed, help to develop problem solving, research and other vocational skills.
Method of Assessment
All nine units of work are continually assessed and interim grades awarded (Pass, Merit or Distinction).
