Description of the Specification

Students will study literature from a variety of periods and genres, including Shakespeare, prose, poetry and drama texts.

  • Analysing a range of different texts from a selected period
  • Shaping responses in formal essay writing
  • Responding creatively to prose texts
  • Sustaining a wide reading exploration of a number of writings on the same theme
  • Gaining knowledge of the social historical circumstances in which texts are written
  • Developing a critical perspective

Unit 3 - Reading for Meaning
Love through the ages
30% of total A level mark / 2½ hour examination                        

Unit 4 - Extended Essay and Shakespeare Study
20% of total A level mark / Coursework                                     

Specific Entry Requirements: A minimum of a grade B in both GCSE English Literature and GCSE English Language
