Art & Design

A new suite of three purpose built Art Studios was opened in autumn 1999 by the well-known local artist, Anthony Green R.A.

All students benefit from a foundation course in a wide variety of skills and media to produce work in areas such as drawing, painting, printmaking, three-dimensional work and written analysis of the work of other artists and designers. The Department is equipped with three powerful computers, colour printers, scanners and digital cameras to enable students to develop ICT skills in this subject area.

Further studies in Art lead to GCSE, AS and A' Level qualifications. Most of our A' Level students go on to study the subject in higher education by completing an Art Foundation Course at some of London's top Art colleges before specialising at Degree Level.

The Art Department offers a focus for the cultural and aesthetic life of the school. Art is displayed around the public areas of the school environment.

All Art staff in the school are qualified specialists ranging from a Three-dimensional designer to a Fine artist and Media artist.

Students also have the opportunity to work with visiting Artists in Residence. At GCSE and A' Level students also make several visits to galleries and museums to influence ideas for coursework. At the end of the course students work is displayed at an exhibition to which friends and family are encouraged to visit.

Our aim as a department is to nurture the development of imaginative, inventive, independent work at every level.
