Description of the Specification
This course is intended to meet the needs of the following groups of candidates:
- those who, whilst having an interest and aptitude in the subject, are not intending to study the subject beyond AS or A level
- those who will undertake further studies in art, craft and design
- those who will study subjects or take up careers for which an art, craft and design background is relevant
Type and Nature of the Work
- Research and develop observational skills
- Analyse and evaluate the work of other artists and designers
- Develop the ability to utilise various materials in 2 and 3 dimensions such as, printmaking, photography, painting and mixed media
- Produce final outcomes, influenced by artists’ or designers’ work

Unit 1 - Coursework
Internally set and marked
Externally moderated / 30% of total A level mark
Unit 2 - Externally Set Assignment (8 hour exam)
Internally marked
Externally set and moderated / 20% of total A level mark
A2
Unit 3 - Coursework (practical work, personal study)
Internally set and marked
Externally moderated / 30% of total A level mark
Unit 4 - Externally Set Assignment (12 hour exam)
Internally marked
Externally set and moderated / 20% of total A level mark
Specific Entry Requirements: A minimum of a grade B if this option was studied for GCSE. If Art was not studied for GCSE a portfolio of work must be presented which demonstrates that a candidate is suitably equipped to meet the demands of studying the subject at Advanced level.
