Description of the Specification
This course offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of ICT by applying learning in a practical and realistic way to gain a broader understanding of ICT and its real world contexts.
The course consists of twelve units. In order to gain the double A level award students must complete six units in Year 12 and six units in Year 13.
Year 12 Units
- Unit 1: Using ICT to communicate
- Unit 2: How organisations use ICT (Exam)
- Unit 3: ICT solutions for individuals and society
- Unit 4: System specification and configuration
- Unit 5: Problem solving using ICT
- Unit 7: Communicating using computers needs
Year 13 Units
- Unit 9: Working to a brief
- Unit 10: Numerical modelling using spreadsheets
- Unit 14: Developing and creating websites
- Unit 16: Networking solutions (Exam)
- Unit 18: Database design
- Unit 20: ICT solutions for people with individual
Type and Nature of Work Involved
The course is delivered through a series of coursework assignments and theory lessons. The assignments, which are continually assessed, are based on problems that can be solved through the use of ICT.
Method of Assessment
Two of the units are externally tested whilst the other 10 units are continually assessed internally in the form of a portfolio of work.
Students can achieve two A level grades, each between A and E. Students may also be awarded a double AS in ICT by successfully completing the Year 12 course.
Specific Entry Requirements: if ICT was studied for GCSE, a minimum of a grade C in the subject, or if an OCR National ICT was taken at least a Pass grade.
